The Annales scientifiques de l'École normale supérieure publish mathematical papers in French, English, German or Italian. Manuscripts submitted for publication should be sent together with an abstract in French and in English, of maximum length 150 words. Titles in French must be supplied with an English translation (French translations of the title/abstract can be delayed to the first revision request, if applicable). Titles in English, German or Italian should have a translation in French.

Artificial intelligence

The editorial board of Annales Scientifiques de l’École Normale Supérieure is committed to mathematics being explored, understood and communicated by human beings. We wish to continue publishing papers exclusively conceived by humans.

Use of artificial intelligence by authors

A manuscript submitted to us must have been entirely written by humans. If part of the contents of a manuscript has been written by an artificial intelligence tool, then it will be rejected. We accept that the preparatory work for the creation of a manuscript may have involved exchanges between its authors and an artificial intelligence tool. Nevertheless, we only acknowledge as the authors of an article the humans who sign it. They should take full responsibility for the arguments they use and their validity.

We ask all authors to include in their manuscripts a statement on the use of artificial intelligence, even if they didn’t use it. Moreover, if the authors have availed themselves of artificial intelligence, we kindly request that they describe this use in detail in this statement.

Use of artificial intelligence by referees

During the evaluation of a paper, the committee or the referees may consider using an artificial intelligence tool. This use is restricted to checking computations or technical arguments and does not replace human evaluation. We ask the referees to write themselves the reports which will be forwarded to the authors.

We kindly ask the authors, while submitting their manuscripts, to let us know whether they accept such a use of artificial intelligence or they oppose any use of artificial intelligence as part of the editorial process. They may use for this purpose the “Comments for the Editor” box which appears on the first tab of the online submission tool.
